Saturday Mornings

Almost every morning, without fail, if my alarm doesn't wake me up the maintenance guys will. They are everywhere doing grounds work. Mowing lawns, weed whacking, blowing blowing blowing! They always seem to be doing the loudest thing at the most inopportune times of the day. Like when I'm trying to take a nap or when I'm trying to do my homework. And it's so super frustrating to me!! So, I tried to think on the positive side instead. I decided to think of good reasons that they have to do this stuff. The first one I came up with was fairly obvious: to keep the campus pretty! It really is absolutely gorgeous. If they didn't do their jobs the campus wouldn't be nearly as pretty. It always looks clean, crisp, and it makes a great impression. That was pretty much all I could come up with until the other day when I woke up to the sound of a blower. It wasn't unlike any other day except that I must have been dreaming about home. Because it brought me back to almost every Saturday morning in the summer. I would wake up to the sound of the lawn mower or the blower and I knew it was Dad out in the backyard. Sometimes it would be Spencer too. That sound would wake me up and I'd know I should be up too. Dad had probably been up for a few hours and if I didn't get myself up, he would in about twenty minutes anyways. It was time to do yard work and the longer I sat in bed the hotter it was going to be outside. I literally almost cried when I woke up that morning. I got ready for class and when I went outside all I could smell was fresh cut grass. In my head I could see my backyard again, with my puppy dog running up to me. She always seemed to be the most excited to be outside "working" with Dad. The rest of the day every time I saw a maintenance guy, I thought of my Dad and how much hard work he put into our backyard to keep it pretty too. As much fuss as I put up about having to do yard work, I really did kind of like Saturday mornings.
